24/7 monitoring is a hardware reliability problem disguised as a software install. The weak points are power, heat, and sleep policies.

Power

Use a UPS if the building blinks. Disable Windows sleep on lid-close if the laptop must keep running closed—or use a small desktop so lids are irrelevant.

Network

Prefer ethernet. Keep a documented hotspot fallback. USB ethernet adapters are cheap compared with a missed collab.

Heat

A laptop on a bed running capture plus a browser plus a VPN will thermal-throttle and then throttle your attention. Elevate it. Dust the vents.

Displays

A second screen for chat versus charts reduces misclicks. It also increases power draw. Measure before you add a third.

Spares

One spare machine with the client already installed is worth more than a perfect primary with no backup. Image the spare quarterly.
